Pasadena Water and Power seeks approval for 20-year, $500M solar energy contract

Pasadena Water and Power is seeking authorization from the City Council to enter into a 20-year power sales contract with Southern California Public Power Authority for solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage.

The proposed contract, which will be discussed during the Pasadena City Council’s Municipal Services Committee meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 13, would cost an amount not-to-exceed $512.05 million, a PWP memo showed.

The recommendation is part of PWP’s efforts to transition towards sustainable energy sources and meet ambitious decarbonization goals. The proposed contract aims to source renewable energy from the Bonanza Solar project, operated by Bonanza Solar, LLC, located in Clark County, Nevada.

CVS continues sustainable energy efforts at East Coast, California stores

CVS Health is going solar at nearly 1,000 locations through a new agreement with Constellation Energy Corporation.

The pharmacy chain has announced two agreements that total 264,000-megawatt hours with Constellation to purchase zero-emission, renewable energy equivalent to the annual electricity use of nearly 1,000 CVS Health locations in California, Washington D.C., Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey.

CVS Health’s deals are made possible by Constellation’s long-term agreements with solar projects located in California and Maryland. CVS will receive approximately 264,000 megawatt hours of energy per year through its retail agreement with Constellation, with that energy matched by Green-e Energy Certified RECs sourced from other renewable facilities throughout the U.S.

Enter Hyundai Home, a marketplace launched last week during the Los Angeles Auto Show with the goal of alleviating the perplexity of picking solar panels, a home battery storage solution, and an EV charging system that’s right for an individual home. Unlike offerings from Tesla and GM, Hyundai isn’t building or selling its own hardware. Instead, it partnered with established players in the industry.

Wind and solar powered home shows what is possible for eco-conscious homeowners

Kae Shummoogum opened his home on Saturday to curious visitors wanting to learn more about why his is the only home in the Calgary area to be powered by wind.

Although, Shummoogum readily says that is just a small part of the entire power his home generates from ecologically friendly sources.

He installed the wind generator at his home, just outside of Calgary’s city limits near Balzac, nearly 20 years ago.
