ForeFront Power has partnered with Newark Unified School District in California to install a 1.4-MW solar energy and storage system at Newark Memorial High School and Newark Junior High School.

“Seeing this solar portfolio live and operational is like looking into the future of our District,” said Mark Triplett, Newark USD Superintendent. “Not only are we leading by example through our environmental stewardship, but the cost savings from our new solar energy and storage system will help us fund and expand new educational programs to enhance the quality of learning for all our students. Locking in rates through on-site solar and battery storage in an era of rising costs helps us better leverage taxpayer dollars to serve our students and their families.”

Microsoft has signed a new Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with AES to procure renewable energy for its Californian facilities.

AES Corporation this week announced a 20-year agreement with Microsoft to provide renewable energy to its data centers in California.

In what AES called a “highly customized agreement,” Microsoft will partially match its load at their California-based data centers. AES will source the energy from a portfolio of 110MWAC solar and 55MW, 4-hour storage projects in the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) region.

The pace in which the world needs to transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy needs to urgently accelerate as the threat from rising global temperatures increases each day, experts say.

There is a more than 50% chance that temperatures will exceed 2 degrees Celsius unless the ambitious climate pledges made leading up to the 2021 U.N. Climate Change Conference are not strictly adhered to, a study published this month in the scientific journal Nature found.
